PBID Projects

The San Pedro Historic Waterfront Business Improvement District (PBID) will continually research, develop and implement projects that will enhance our stakeholders’ investment in our district. These projects may be one-time efforts or occur on a regularly scheduled basis.

Current projects include annual tree trimming, installation of decorative street lighting, improved landscaping, as well as continuing successful projects from the prior year

The creation and implementation of projects is a continual path to success. These projects are designed to provide a clean, safe, inviting PBID that encourages the prosperity of our businesses, enhances property values and warmly welcomes visitors to San Pedro.

Streetscape Furniture

PBID and the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) are working individually on complementary streetscape projects for the downtown areas.

Old concrete benches, planters and trash receptacles have been removed from 6th, 7th, Center and Mesa Streets. CRA has installed several new iron pieces that match the color of the newly installed street light poles.

We have received 26 additional pieces of furniture acquired by the PBID. We expect that these items will be installed beginning on Pacific Ave. by the end of May 2011.

Tree Trimming

The PDID will be trimming all city trees in April and May. Due to environmental restrictions, we will have to wait until June to trim the palm trees.

We expect to complete the work by May 1st, 2011.

Decorative Street Lighting

Two strands of LED Tivoli style lights were installed across 6th St. at the Warner Grand in November 2010.

We are working with City of Los Angeles to obtain the permits necessary to install this lighting throughout the downtown area.

Downtown Planters

The PBID has begun a landscaping project that will significantly improve the street appeal of the PBID's planters and tree wells.

We are removing foreign matter, adding amendment to improve the soil's quality and installing drought resistant low maintenance plants to the areas. The first planters have been completed on 7th St. Expected completion of the 67 planters is April 15, 2011.

Downtown Trolley

The PBID purchased two used trolleys in December 2010.

These propane powered vehicles are being re-furbished and are expected to be placed in service in the 2nd quarter of 2011. The picture to the left shows one of our trolleys being refurbished.

Tourism Marketing

The PBID is continuing to work to attract greater numbers of visitors to the community.

We have begun airing 30 second commercials on Time Warner Cable in the San Pedro, Torrance and Palos Verdes market areas. We are also producing a 10 minute tourism video highlighting the unique attributes of San Pedro. This video will be distributed to travel professionals at trade shows and conventions throughout the year.

Retail Kiosks

Opportunities are available for qualified merchants to utilize PBIC managed kiosks at the Fanfare Fountain on the Waterfront Promenade. Contact Steve Robbins at 310.832.2183 for more information.
